Funding for VIU trades programs

VIU is getting a cash injection from the province to purchase the latest technology for trades program training.

The $187,000 will be used to purchase equipment in a number of programs including automotive, refrigeration and air conditioning, welding, electrical, carpentry and heavy-mechanical trades.

VIU Dean of Trades and Technology, Glynis Steen, says they know how important it is to train students on the latest technology.

In addition to the funding for new equipment, the province is chipping in $4.85-million to fund trades seats in various VIU programs including cooking, welding, heavy mechanics, electrical and carpentry.
