The tiskwat paper mill site is permanently curtailed.
That’s according to Paper Excellence Canada, with chief operating officer Stew Gibson saying that it was a difficult decision to make.
“Following a comprehensive review of options, it has been determined that a restart of a pulp or paper business is not feasible. We now look forward to the redevelopment of the site,” said Gibson.
Paper Excellence adds that after the site was originally curtailed back in December 2021, most of the employees took voluntary severance.
A small number of them chose to work at another mill site owned by the company. They add there is no risk of major chemicals, fibre and fuels at the mill.
While they are in conversation with potential buyers of the site, Gibson says it’s too early to make public statements.
