Local officials are looking into complaints of tourists coming to town and stripping shellfish from beaches. Concerns were raised this week after locals saw bus loads of what appeared to be out-of-towners combing the beaches.
Powell River Mayor Dave Formosa says he’s been approached by a number of concerned residents.
He says they spoke with authorities, who checked and ensured that the harvesters were in compliance with licences. Formosa says the three local governments are talking about what might be able to be done.
