How to safely burn in your backyard this November

Before you do some backyard burning this November, make sure you get a permit.

That’s from the City of Powell River, who have designated April and November as Backyard Burning months. So, they are offering tips on how to be safe while burning your pile.

First off, they ask you to get your permit from City Hall for $25. Along with the permit, you should check to see if your venting index is good during the burn, and to also check the weather forecast if there will be high or gusty winds that day.

Other tips include not burning any plastic, magazine, or cardboard, making sure that the burning is hot and dry, and to not leave the burning pile unattended.

When you are putting the fire out, the city says that it should be fully out by 3 pm.
