The qathet Regional District is getting funding to improve the Lund water system.
This funding is in response to the system not supplying enough water to meet Canadian drinking water guidelines. Because of the financial impact of the improvements, the district applied for funding in February 2022.
The grant will provide up to $11 million to make the necessary upgrades, which includes reforming supply, pump stations, treatment, storage, and distribution.
Regional board chair Clay Brander says given the costs, the funding will reduce the taxation burden on the users.
The district says to utilize the grant, they would need elector approval for borrowing up to $4 million to fund the local portion of costs.
