This Thanksgiving long weekend, make sure you’re prepared before hitting the road.

ICBC spokesperson Caroline Robinson says if you’re planning on trip this long weekend, then to give yourself some extra time getting to your destination and slow down. She notes that posted speed limits are for ideal conditions, so be cautious especially when it’s raining.

Robinson says last year’s statistic for accidents during this weekend was too high for the region.

She notes that last year during this long weekend, 80 people were injured with around 280 accidents on Vancouver Island alone, and that’s a statistic they don’t want repeated.

Robinson adds if you do plan on drinking, to make sure you have a designated driver to return home safely.
