Illicit drug deaths still a problem on North Island

The North Island Medical Health Officer says illicit drug deaths continues to be a challenge on the North Island. The BC Coroners Service has released the latest drug death data. It shows that the number of overdose deaths in BC in the first 9 months of this year has already exceeded the number in all of 2015.

Doctor Charmaine Enns says 70% of overdose deaths are fentanyl-related.

Enns says it will be a long process to get the continuum of care in place that those with addictions need, but gathering the data on overdoses helps agencies.
