As of noon on Friday, all fires are banned in the Powell River region, even beach fires and backyard weenie roasts.
With officials concerned about the risk of wildfires, as recent warm weather is rapidly drying out the forests, the Coastal Fire Centre manager made the order this week to ban Category 1, 2, and 3 fires throughout the coastal region, including the Sunshine Coast.
Only the Haida Gwaii region is still allowed to have category 1 campfires.
The fire ban starts at noon on Friday and will continue until October 31, or until it is rescinded. It applies to all private and public lands.
