Powell River firefighters were honoured earlier this month for years of service putting their lives on the line to protect others.
Mayor Ron Woznow presented the exemplary and long service awards at the July 11 council meeting.
“During COVID several members of our fire department earned medals for exemplary service, but have never been presented formally,” he said. “Exemplary service is characterized by good conduct, industry, and efficiency.”
The award is for firefighters who have served at least 20 years, including 10 in positions involving personal risk.
Six firefighters received the awards, including fire chief Martin Drakeley, deputy chief Rocky Swanson, and captains Brad Collicutt, Rob Devlin, Kevin Culos, Dave Ellis and Chris Phyall.
