A toxic drug alert has been issued for Powell River by Vancouver Coastal Health.
Multiple samples of substances sold as “down” in the qathet region and Powell River have tested positive for fentanyl along with a highly toxic veterinary sedative. The toxic drugs appear as brown paste and beige pebbles.
Free and confidential drug-testing services are available seven days a week in the region, visit the qathet Community Action Team’s website for more information.
Drug checking is strongly recommended for anyone who consumes illicit or unregulated substances, but especially people whose substance use is recreational or occasional. People with a lower physical tolerance for fentanyl are at greater risk of overdose when consuming substances from the unregulated market.
