Construction starts next week on improvements in the Townsite region that will make streets safer.
The City of Powell River’s improvement project for Maple and Sycamore Streets gets underway on Wednesday. The project will make the streets safer for everyone especially kids, with a focus on enhancing pedestrian and cyclist safety. Traffic calming measures including curb extensions, painted sidewalks, and a 30 kilometre per hour zone are part of the improvements.
Work starts Wednesday and will continue until September 30, weather permitting. Traffic control will be in place, hours of work will be from 7 am to 7 pm, Monday to Friday.
Crews will organize construction to minimize disruption to nearby Henderson Elementary and Brooks Secondary, once school resumes in September.
