Cops for Cancer celebrations and fundraisers coming Monday

The town is gearing up to welcome the Cops for Cancer Tour de Coast on Monday.

Riders will arrive in Powell River on Monday, and a Peloton stationary bike will be part of a travelling community fundraiser, making multiple stops at schools and local businesses.

Save-On Foods and Starbucks will be hosting a community barbecue, serving hot dogs and coffee from 10:30 am to 1 pm, it’s by donation with all proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society. Riders will arrive just after noon to mingle with the crowd.

There will be another fundraiser in the evening at the Carlton Community Club from 5 to 8 pm with cyclists arriving at 6:10 pm. The line up includes a burger and a beer or glass of wine fundraiser, a head shave event sponsored by Scissors Salon & Body Works and a silent auction which includes a variety of gifts donated by local businesses.

Local rider Constable Alex McNulty has raised more than $8,000 for the cause so far. To support him through an online donation, visit the Canadian Cancer Society’s official donation page.
