Salish Orca making its way to BC

BC Ferries newest vessel is on its way to BC.

The Salish Orca, which will serve the Powell River – Comox route, left Poland this week.

Ferries spokesperson Deborah Marshall says the journey to BC will take 45 to 55 days, depending on weather conditions. She says the vessel will go through final inspections once it arrives, and crews will undergo final training before the ship goes into service.

Marshall says the Salish Orca will be duel-fuel vessel and can operate on both diesel or natural gas. She notes natural gas is a cleaner fuel type and is less expensive than diesel.

She notes the vessel’s journey can be tracked online at vesseltracker.com.
