You can learn more about plans to upgrade the rec centre in Powell River through some special events this month.
The qathet Regional District says crews will soon begin to upgrade the Northside Community Recreation Centre, which is used for community, social, and recreation events and activities.
They say the project will focus on providing a gathering space for the community, bringing green building elements to the design, and using local goods and services. The upgrades will include space for a half-court basketball gym, a hall for 200 people, a stage for theatre/musical productions, wheelchair accessibility, new washrooms, and a commercial-grade kitchen renovation.
As part of the project, the district will hold an open house and two public information sessions, with Dawn Construction and their architects available to speak about the design.
Dawn will set up an online portal for people to look at the project details, with a chance to email them your comments after the sessions.
The events are happening at the qathet Regional District Boardroom in Suite 201, located at 4675 Marine Avenue on October 24.
The first session will start at 10:00 a.m. that day, with the second starting at 5:30 p.m.
