RCMP road programs aims to stop impaired driving

The annual CounterAttack campaign is now underway.

Police will be out on area roadways, ensuring people are not driving while impaired this holiday season. ICBC spokesperson Caroline Robinson says on average, 66 people are killed on BC roads in impaired-related crashes each year.

Robinson says stats show 23% of car crash fatalities are related to impaired drivers, with most happening on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

Robinson says the biggest tip for the holiday season is to make sure you plan ahead and have a safe ride home before you head out.
