Shelters approved for new transit exchange at Town Centre Mall

City council has committed to adding three transit shelters at the Town Centre Mall with nearly $160,000 in funding.

This summer, the city relocated the transit exchange from the north side of the mall to the west. However, shelters were not included in the move, leaving people to wait under the mall canopy or in the rain for their buses.

A report to council from city staff says the transit department has received numerous complaints about the lack of shelters, as well as concerns about the well-being of people waiting for the bus in poor weather conditions.

At its last regular meeting council agreed to use money from a BC Transit grant and $40,000 from the Community Forest Reserve Fund to build new shelters. The project will also add new washrooms for bus drivers.
