28 childcare spaces will open at a school in Powell River.
The BC government has announced these spaces are for Kelly Creek Community School, with 12 of them for children younger than three years old, and the remaining 16 for children between three and five years old.
The spaces will be part of a new Child Care Centre for the school, with $1.1 million invested from the province to support the construction.
School District 47 board chair Jaclyn Miller says they are thrilled to have another childcare option for families.
“The centre at Kelly Creek will provide children five and younger with a strong start to their school experience, fostering connections and continuity alongside the school they will likely attend, while strengthening their sense of belonging within the community,” said Miller.
The province says this centre comes after opening up a childcare centre at Edgehill Elementary School last fall.
The hope is with this upcoming centre, a total of 56 spaces would be open for children in the city.
