Over $72,000 invested to bring upgrades to Recreation Complex

Over $72,000 has been invested to bring upgrades to the Powell River Recreation Complex.

The City announced on Friday the funding is for two infrastructure projects, each focusing on improving certain parts of the complex.

The investment was made through the Canada-Community Building Fund, which provides long-term funding to local governments for infrastructure and capacity-building projects.

Over $47,000 of the money is to replace the cold-water line, which was at the end of its life in 2024. The remaining $25,000 is to upgrade the complex’s heating, ventilating and air-conditioning controls and system upgrades.

Federal Minister of Emergency Preparedness Harjit S. Sajjan says community centres play an important role in bringing people together.

“We are proud to have supported the upgrades to the Recreation Complex in Powell River, ensuring that patrons have a safe and accessible space to engage in these activities,” said Sajjan.

City mayor Ron Woznow says the city is grateful for both the federal government and BC government’s support, with hopes the investments can bring a thriving future for Powell River.
