Snowfall warning issued for Powell River today

The snowfall hitting parts of the Island and Coast is now reaching Powell River.

Environment and Climate Change Canada has issued a snowfall warning for the city because of an unstable airmass combined with an area of convergence over the Strait of Georgia.

Between 10 to 15 centimeters of snow is expected, with the highest amounts likely taking place over higher terrain. They say visibility might be lowered at times while on the road.

The weather has led to all waste collections of recycling and organics being suspended today, according to the city on social media.

The city also says the snow is affecting their bus routes, with BC Transit issuing alerts for Route 1 Townsite/Wildwood, Route 2 Grief Point, Route 3 Upper Westview, Route 9 Brooks School, Route 12 Stillwater, Route 13 Texada Island, and Route 14 Lund.

BC Transit says the weather may impact their ability to provide service to the community, resulting in significant delays.

As of now, no service is available for Route 12 through the Roberts Road Loop. Transit recommends visiting their website or the UMO app for updates on service interruptions, restrictions, or cancellations.

Environment Canada adds while the flurries look to be less intense by tonight, you should prepare to adjust your driving to changing road conditions.
