Mini-golf break-in, social media scammers, and more keeping local police busy

Powell River RCMP are looking for help to solve a break-in and vandalism at the mini-golf course.

They say help is needed with a break-and-enter at Putters Mini Golf after a fire alarm was triggered and several items were stolen, and significant damage was done to the ice cream store portion.

Police have also been busy responding to two thefts, two break-and-enters, two counts of impaired driving, four mischief calls, and five mental health-related incidents.

They’re also asking everyone to be on the alert for a new Facebook Marketplace scam.

According to police, the scam involves the seller asking for money by e-transfer and once the person has the money a meet up is agreed on.

Police say the address is usually fake or doesn’t belong to the seller and the buyer is left short of money and without the items.

RCMP say avoid these types of scams by only meeting people before the transaction and remembering ‘if it sounds to good to be true, it usually is.’

Anyone with information is asked to contact Powell River RCMP at 604-485-6255 or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.
