New path will connect Brooks Secondary, rec centre

Construction starts next week on a new multi-use path connecting the Townsite and Westview neighbourhoods.

Called the Mid-Level Connector, it’s a one-and-a-half kilometre path connecting Brooks Secondary School to the Recreation Centre. It will be made with a fine crush rock surface, ensuring a smooth and comfortable experience for users of all ages and abilities, on foot or on bicycle.

It will also include lighting, with electrical conduits and light pole bases being installed along the pathway. The lighting features were requested specifically by Brooks students.

The project aims to start construction on February 18. It will cost more than $1.6 million, with funding coming from the Powell River Community Forest fund as well as provincial and federal sources.
