An alert community member was able to avoid losing any significant amounts of money after an online scam attempt.
Powell River RCMP said on February 5 they received a report of a new Facebook Marketplace scam attempt.
A person had posted books for sale on the site and received a request to purchase them.
The prospective buyer sent an e-transfer for the amount posted, when the owner of the books clicked on the link, it asked for further banking information.
The owner recognized the link as a scam and reported the information to their bank and did not lose any money as a result.
Powell River RCMP said everyone should be vigilant when buying and selling on Facebook Marketplace and not provide banking information online.
