Powell River police and first responders will be jumping into the ocean this weekend, for a good cause.
The town’s first-ever Polar Plunge for Special Olympics is happening on Sunday afternoon at Willingdon Beach from noon to 1 pm. Local first responders are challenging the community to join them getting bold and cold, or to come cheer and show support.
The event is a fundraiser for Special Olympics BC’s year-round sport, youth, and health programs for athletes with intellectual disabilities.
People can come early or stay afterward for a beach bonfire, a hot bowl of chilli and a cup of coffee or hot chocolate. Food and drinks are by donation and are cash only.
For more information, or to make a donation, visit the official event website.
