Controversial coal barging plan a GO for Texada Island

Port Metro Vancouver HAS given the OK to a plan that includes barging coal to Texada Island. WEBSITEThe Fraser Surrey Docks project involves importing US coal and sending it to Texada for loading onto larger ships bound for Asia. The plan has been opposed by the Sechelt First Nation and local governments on the Sunshine Coast. Port Metro says a thorough two-year review process shows there’s no undue risk to the environment or human health. Powell River Sunshine Coast MLA Nicholas Simons says that’s all well and good… but it didn’t consider the Fraser River to Texada part of the project.

Port Metro Vancouver also says under the permit FSD will have to meet strict conditions
