Distillery applies for permit to restart production

The Beach Gardens Marina and Resort is applying for a temporary use permit to allow for a craft liquor distillery and bottling.

It’s for Salish Sea Distillery, which it owns, and which produces artisanal gins and vodkas. The business relocated to Powell River from the Kootenays in 2021.

The site had a permit issued in 2021, which has since expired.

In a report to council, staff say the proposal fits in with current operations at the site, and don’t anticipate any issues as there were none when the distillery was previously in operation.

The applicants say it’s a temporary home for the business, and are planning a permanent purpose-built facility as part of larger plans for Beach Gardens.

Council will review the proposal at its March 20 meeting.
