An organics program is moving to new locations in the qathet region starting late-March.
On social media this week, the qathet Regional District announced their Organics Pilot Program, which collects food and yard waste, will be moving from Sunshine Disposal & Recycling to the Resource Recovery Centre and Tla’amin Recycling Depot.
The district says for the Centre, you can drop off grass clippings, leaves, branches with 2 inches in diameter, fruits, vegetables, bread, meat, fish, coffee grounds, and food-soiled paper packaging for free.
They add food waste under 20 pounds will be accepted at the Centre, while waste over 20 pounds go to the Centre transfer station. Yard waste up to 2 yards also goes to the transfer station.
For the recycling depot, food waste under 20 pounds will still be accepted for free.
Drop-offs are open for the Centre Mondays to Saturdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., while drop-offs at the depot are open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
This change comes into effect March 29, the last day for you to drop off organics at Sunshine Disposal & Recycling.
