The BC Wildfire Service is lifting its ban on Category 1 open burning at, or campfires, within the Coastal Fire Centre on Friday at noon, but some local governments are keeping the ban in place.
The City of Powell River said the campfire ban will remain active within city limits.
“Although the Province has lifted the campfire ban, the City of Powell River will not be lifting its local restrictions at this time,” said a statement from Powell River Fire Rescue. “To be absolutely clear, there will be no burning permits, no special permits, and no burning of any kind permitted within the municipality.”
The Comox Valley Regional District said most of its fire departments will also maintain open burning bans through May long weekend.
