Planned power outages scheduled for Powell River region in May, June

The City of Powell River and BC Hydro are advising residents of two planned regional power outages in late May and early June.

BC Hydro is moving into the next phase of its Jervis Inlet and Agamemnon Channel power line replacement project.

The outages are scheduled for Sunday, May 24, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, June 7, from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

They will affect BC Hydro customers in Powell River and surrounding areas, including Lund, Cortes Island, Texada Island and Saltery Bay.

BC Ferries does not expect any schedule changes. Sailings between Saltery Bay and Earls Cove, and Powell River and Comox, are expected to operate as usual.

In April, BC Hydro removed the 138-kilovolt power line crossing over Agamemnon Channel. A line at the Jervis Inlet crossing was removed in October 2025.

“Once the project is finished, the region’s power system will be stronger and more resilient, with a higher voltage capacity (230-kV) to support long-term regional development,” said a BC Hydro statement.
