Community contest opens to name new RCMP boat

Powell River RCMP will be getting a new patrol boat and is inviting the public to help name it through a community contest.

The new boat will replace a vessel that is no longer in service and is expected to enhance patrol capabilities and improve safety on local waterways.

Const. Paula Perry said the contest is intended to be a fun and engaging way for children to get involved.

“Children are encouraged to submit their idea for a name into one of the designated entry boxes that are located at Tla’amin Nation Cousins House, local elementary schools, Powell River Public Library and the recreation centre,” she said.

Submissions will be accepted from June 15 to 26, with the winner to be announced in the fall.
