Powell River Kings hire new General Manager, Director of Hockey Operations

Just two days after naming a new head coach, the Powell River Kings have made two new hires to strengthen their front office.

Tyler Kuntz has been named the team’s new general manager, while Curtis Fraser is the new director of hockey operations.

Kuntz previously served as head coach and general manager of the team from 2018 to 2020.

The Powell River Kings board said in a statement that Kuntz’s connection with the community and ability to build strong programs made his return a natural fit.

“He has already played a pivotal role in strengthening our operations, including helping secure our new head coach.”

Kuntz played in the BCHL before moving on to the UBC Thunderbirds for a five-year career.

He then played professional hockey in Europe and North America before transitioning to coaching, including roles as assistant coach for the WHL’s Vancouver Giants, head coach of the UBC Thunderbirds and assistant coach of the Daemyung Killer Whales in South Korea.

Fraser played in the BCHL for the Victoria Salsa and Vernon Vipers before moving on to the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

His professional career included time in the AHL, ECHL and Europe.

Fraser then transitioned to front office roles, serving as director of hockey operations for the Langley Rivermen, a B.C. scout for the WHL’s Everett Silvertips and in player development and coaching roles.

The Kings board said Fraser is a force of nature who gets things done.

“His connections across the hockey world and tireless work ethic have been invaluable.”

The Kings said the two will form a strong leadership duo with local roots, deep hockey expertise and a shared passion for restoring the Kings to their proud tradition of excellence.
