Off-road vehicle prohibition to be rescinded across Coastal Fire Centre Friday

A partial off-road vehicle prohibition is being rescinded across the Coastal Fire Centre.

As of noon Friday, Aug. 28, the prohibition on all-terrain vehicles, motorcycles and off-road side-by-side vehicles on Crown land outside municipal boundaries is no longer in effect.

The prohibition was introduced earlier this month to reduce wildfire risk. The BC Wildfire Service said conditions have since improved.

“While conditions have improved, we urge recreators to remain vigilant and follow all wildfire prevention regulations when engaging in any activity that could spark a wildfire,” the service said in a statement.

A campfire ban remains in effect in most areas of the Coastal Fire Centre, along with prohibitions on larger Category 2 and 3 open fires.
