First Nations protest in Port Hardy

A protest by local First Nations, resulted in the postponement of Tuesday’s dedicationWEBSITE ceremonies at the new Port Hardy coast guard station.

Norman Champagne administrator for the Kwakiutl Indian Band says they are protesting because there was no consultation about this facility being built on aboriginal title land.

Champagne says at the end of the day it is about aboriginal title and rights… he says the Canadian Government must seek consultation, accommodation and consent of aboriginal people where there is title.
