Capilano University and the Sechelt Nation have put pen to paper.
The two parties signed a historic agreement aimed at supporting First Nations through their post secondary education.
Sechelt Nation Education and Employment Manager Ashley Joe says the Affiliation Agreement formalizes and expands on the existing partnership between them in the spirit of truth, reconciliation and mutual respect.
“We’re trying to break down barriers and the negative stigma from the residential schools and want them (students) to know that they can do it.”
Joe hopes this agreement is a jumping off point for many students to pursue a higher education, with the full support of their community.
