Simons back in Victoria with highway improvement on his mind

Story by Tommy Wang, Vista Radio

VICTORIA, B.C. – The MLA for Powell River-Sunshine Coast realizes the importance of upgrading Highway 101. And he wants to relay that message to his colleagues in Victoria.

Nic Simons, who was contacted by a local advocacy group called SC 101, is looking to present a petition to the Legislature at some point during this fall session.

“When we think about when the hourly sailings for BC Ferries are implemented, there will be increased traffic and that’ll put a lot of pressure on our infrastructure,” he said.

“We need to be prepared for that and I will make sure the ministers in charges of this is also aware of the situation.”

Simons added petitions don’t always result in immediate action and in our province, the government doesn’t even have to acknowledge them.

However, he will and he’s sure the concerns of the community will continue to be reflected.
