Powell River’s EV fleet expanding with three new vehicles

The City of Powell River is expanding its electric vehicle fleet, through the addition of three new vehicles.

They include two Ford E-Transit Cargo vans and one fully electric vehicle, with the latter set to be used for general business.

City Operations Manager Rod Fraser says the new additions help the city toward its goal of cleaner transportation.

“By transitioning to EVs when we can, we help clear the air and significantly reduce our carbon footprint,” says Fraser.

“Using the full cost of the vehicle during its lifecycle, it’s less expensive to run certain small and light-duty electric vehicles rather than their traditional gasoline counterparts.”

A total of $130,810 was invested in the EV’s, with the new vehicles bringing the total number of vehicles in the fleet to six.

The city adds the fleet will be used for service delivery, daily maintenance, projects, and the planning of the community infrastructure.
