RCMP in Powell River went on a wild goose chase in trying to find a suspect in a vehicle crash.
On July 29, RCMP received reports of a vehicle crash into a concrete barrier at the end of Ontario Avenue, before driving through heavy bushes and fleeing the area.
Upon arrival, police received witness descriptions of the vehicle, and they reviewed video surveillance of the incident.
Patrols in the area found the vehicle with extensive damage done which was consistent with the damage at the accident scene.
It was parked across the street from the registered owner’s address, but no one was inside, and the owner was nowhere to be found.
All police found was an intoxicated male who denied involvement and was arrested for public intoxication and was released once sober.
Police towed the vehicle before finding the owner the next morning who denied involvement in the accident.
Despite claiming to not be involved, police issued violation tickets for driving without due care and failure to remain at the scene of the accident.
