A local non-profit wants to use part of its property to build multi-unit residential housing, and it’s up for discussion at council Thursday night.
The Inclusion Powell River Society owns a ten-acre parcel of land on Artaban Street, which currently houses its Cranberry Child Development and Family Resource Centre. The society is proposing to subdivide the property and use the larger portion to build up to 54 residential lots. The existing centre would remain as-is.
Staff say in a report to council that the proposal fits with the official community plan and recommend approval, as long as each lot contains at least two dwelling units, and some of the trees on site are preserved.
Council will consider the application in a first reading at its Thursday night meeting.
