POWELL RIVER, B.C. – Two new players have committed to the Powell River Kings.
Forward Rowan Miller is a long-time resident of Vernon born in Arizona. The 2001-born player suited up for the South Island Royals of the BC Major Midget League last season. With the team, he scored 14 goals and dished out 14 assists over 39 games.
Miller also played as an affiliate player in eight games for the VIJHL’s Victoria Cougars. In the course of those contests, he scored two goals and two assists.
In a release from the team, head coach Tyler Kuntz said he’s excited to offer Miller the opportunity to develop as a player, saying that patience is needed when it comes to a younger player at the junior level.
““We see him as a player that will just continue to get better. He can skate, he’s got skill and he’s intelligent. He wants to do those things to get better, he wants to improve and our goal is to guide him along that path,” Kuntz said.
6 foot 4 defenseman Brenden Saether has committed to the team as well. The Abbotsford native played for the PJHL’s Mission City Outlaws last season.
In 42 games, he scored four goals and recorded five assists. Saether also played in 14 regular season, and all 13 playoff games with the BCHL’s Surrey Eagles.
“What I see is a big player with a long reach, a big stick, he’s mobile and can turn to get pucks,” Kuntz stated in the team release.
“He played in two game sevens last year (with Surrey), and playing here on the smaller ice is going to be beneficial for him. He’s extremely fit and a real worker, and off the ice he’s a great kid who is really hungry to get better.”
Both players will participate in the Powell River Kings Main Camp in August, ahead of the start of the team’s 30th anniversary season in September.
