The Insurance Bureau of Canada says there are steps you can take to help prepare, should disaster strike.
Spokesperson Aaron Sutherland says disasters like the one in Fort McMurray always raises awareness of the importance of having the right insurance coverage.
He says there are also things you can do to help the claims process go more smoothly.
Sutherland says most home insurance policies include coverage for fire, but flood and earthquake insurance are usually additions – coverage which he says are important here on the BC Coast.
