The City of Powell River is looking at an alternative plan to a full runway extension at the airport.
Director of Infrastructure, Tor Birtig says a detailed design found that a full extension would be cost prohibitive. He notes that what they’re thinking of doing is using what they currently have in place and increasing take-off distance by moving some lights and markings.
Birtig says adding some pavement in would lead to an additional 300 feet to the take-off distance.
Birtig says, if the plan is approved, they would target having the work done by the fall of next year.
