qRD launching public engagement for next year’s budget, financial plan

You can have a say in the qathet Regional District’s budget and financial plan for next year through a public engagement project.

The process is part of planning done by the district each year to inform their five-year financial plan for services and programs for residents and visitors. They say they use the public feedback along with its strategic plan, electoral area official community plans, work plans and input from advisory committees.

According to the district, you can get involved by responding to a short survey on its website between Aug. 1 and Sept. 30. Paper copies will also be available at the qRD office at 202-4675 Marine Ave.

Manager of Financial Services Linda Greenan says the feedback is important because the qRD does not have a single tax rate.

“The qRD provides more than 40 individual services throughout the region,” said Greenan. “These distinct services are paid for by different formations of taxpayers. Each service has its own budget, and all assets, income, expenses, reserves, surpluses, and deficits are kept within that service.”

You are also encouraged to attend upcoming budget meetings and ask questions about the budget and plan. A timeline of upcoming meetings can be found here.
