Texada Island woman fined for hunting too close to roadway

Texada Island RCMP say a woman has been fined after she confessed to hunting too close to a roadway.

They say RCMP got a report on Nov. 4 that the woman was hunting in a closed area in Pocohontas Bay. The caller said they also informed the woman that she was not allowed to hunt so close to the road and she left.

Officers talked to local conservation who confirmed that hunters must be at least 25 metres off the road and pointing in a direction away from it at all times.

The next day, police say the woman called Texada Island RCMP and admitted she was hunting about two metres off the road.

She was given a ticket under the Wildlife Act for $345.

Powell River and Texada Island RCMP would like to remind you that it is your responsibility to know and abide by all laws set out in the act.
