New promotional contest set to launch in Powell River

The City of Powell River looks to support local businesses through a new contest.

The city, along with the Powell River Chamber of Commerce and Community Futures Powell River, are working together on the I Got Caught Shopping Local campaign, which aims to support small businesses by getting residents to buy local.

The city says that for this contest, you only buy a product or service from a participating business, where you ask for an I Got Caught Shopping Local button. If you are caught wearing the button, you will win a prize.

Mayor Ron Woznow says the campaign comes as small businesses are still struggling because of the impacts left by the pandemic.

“Many entrepreneurs are finding it difficult to operate profitably, and plan for future growth with confidence,” said Woznow.

“The success of our small business sector is vital to Powell River’s prosperity.”

The campaign will start on Friday December 1.
