Family Place Resource Centre looking for new home

A local centre that helps families in Powell River is looking for a new home.

The Family Place Resource Centre has been operating in the Town Centre Mall since 2004, helping young families in the qathet region through workshops, education, a food pantry, and a hygiene cupboard.

Lift Community Services, who run the centre, have announced that they will be moving from the mall in December, with the organization now looking for a long-term home.

The space should support 50 families at any given time, have a kitchen, and a lawn space to meet programming needs.

Lift Community Support Manager, Jessica Colasanto says family resource programs have helped build community connections.

“We certainly see that in our program, parents of all socio-economic and cultural backgrounds are creating new social networks and discovering new resources for themselves and their families,” said Colasanto.

Lift is currently coordinating a meeting with other child and family service providers to discuss options for meeting community needs in the meantime.

The centre’s last day at the mall is Thursday, December 14.
