Emergency preparedness workshops generate awareness in qathet regional district

The qathet Regional District has announced several grant-funded workshops to help prepare the community in the event of an emergency.

The district will be working in partnership with community groups in Powell River and on Texada Island to deliver the workshops which will include mapping and evacuation routes, tours of the evacuation supply containers and practical emergency preparedness information.

Chair Clay Brander says partnerships are integral to the rollout of an effective emergency plan and it’s important each resident is prepared.

“In times of crisis, having a well-prepared and coordinated response is crucial,” he says. “These workshops foster partnerships and empower our region to respond to emergencies effectively.”

The City of Powell River will be delivering the workshops alongside the Powell River Recreation Complex, and on Texada Island they will be integrated into the Community Emergency Preparedness Fair.

Workshops are slated to begin throughout the district in April, and the district is encouraging everyone to participate.
