UPDATE: B.C. Hydro to remove Agamemnon Channel transmission line

BC Hydro said it will remove a transmission line crossing Agamemnon Channel near Earls Cove starting April 20.

The work is part of the utility’s efforts to upgrade the transmission system serving Powell River and surrounding communities.

BACKGROUND: Jervis Inlet and Agamemnon Channel power line replacement project

“The line will be removed by severing the conductors and allowing them to fall down,” said a release from BC Hydro. “The conductors will then be retrieved using a large barge with cable reels.”

The transmission line is scheduled for removal from April 20 to April 24, with contingency dates set for April 25 to May 1.

BC Hydro said marine users should plan for restrictions from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, noting dates could change depending on weather, site conditions and other factors.

Marine traffic will be restricted along a 2.2-kilometre stretch of the channel while the work is underway. Ferry service between Saltery Bay, British Columbia and Earls Cove will not be affected by the marine traffic closure.

A marine route around Nelson Island, British Columbia through Jervis Inlet will remain available.
