Fire Crews Respond to Gas Leak

The Powell River Fire Department responded to a gas leak Thursday morning on Marine Avenue.

Deputy Chief Rocky Swanson says there was some digging going on, and a gas line was hit.

He says the leak didn’t result in any immediate danger, but the location caused some difficulties.

“It was on the highway and since we only have one highway access here into Powell River, we have to divert traffic around and the town can be a little problematic but the public was exceptional in this case. They saw our trucks there and they drove around, making things easy [for crews].”

Swanson says crews were able to fix the leak and secure the scene. He thanks the public for their cooperation. He’s also reminding residents to call 911 and not the City or road crews if you encounter a situation like a gas leak, because dispatchers will deploy the proper resources in the fastest manner possible.
