Low Income Rec Program Expands

Powell River’s Low Income Recreation Assistance Program has expanded.

Manager of Recreation Neil Pukesh says the department realized they were a bit behind the times when it came to the program.

Before the revamp, it was only offered to people who received social assistance through the Ministry of Children and Family Services and would only allow 20 passes per year to the Rec Complex.

“Now if you are living in the Powell River region and meet those low income measurement guidelines, you and your family members will be able to receive access to the Complex. We’re increasing the number of passes from 20 up to 52.”

He says the program applies to everyone living in the residence. “You could have up to 7 people living in the residence and they would all be eligible provided those guidelines are achieved and that criteria is met.”

Pukesh says you can visit the Rec Centre for more details about the program.
