POWELL RIVER, B.C. – If you noticed smoke flares and a plane in the air on Wednesday, it was all a part of a training exercise.
Captain Denis Taylor with the Canadian Coast Guard in Powell River said they teamed up with 442 Squadron from CFB Comox for some regular training.
The Coast Guard’s vessel, the CCGS Cape Caution, was used for the exercise.
“Basically, we act as a vessel in distress, and they drop pumps to us and they drop life rafts to us,” he said.
“It’s a scenario that we play out regularly.”
The exercise was conducted in the Stillwater area.
