Local Powell River program update on tomorrow’s council meeting

An update for a business facade program is on the table for tomorrow’s upcoming Committee of the Whole meeting in Powell River.

Presented by manager of Planning Services Daniella Fergusson, the update will focus on the performance of the business façade improvement program, with the goal to improve the physical appearance of businesses in the local area.

Last year saw the program offer applicants a one-time, 50 per cent matching grant of up to $3,000 per street-facing building façade, with an architect available to design the upgrades at a value of $1,500.

Along with a $500 reimbursement fee, they also made a loan program available for applicants.

Fergusson adds in the report that four facades were built last year: One for Zaikow Agencies, one for Underwriters Insurance Agencies, and two for Fleming & Associates.

Over $2,500 was spent on the design services, with program staff requesting $25,000 for this year.

The council meeting is scheduled for tomorrow afternoon at 3:30, with a livestream of the meeting available for the public.
